SkyRight Roofing and Gutters Urges Post Falls Homeowners to Use Current Dry Weather for Pre-Winter Roof and Gutter Checks

Post Falls, ID / Storyteller / Oct 20, 2026 /

With warm and mostly dry weather continuing in Post Falls during the first part of the week, SkyRight Roofing and Gutters is encouraging homeowners to take advantage of the current conditions to evaluate roofs and gutters before a colder weather pattern arrives this weekend.

The National Weather Service forecast for Post Falls shows daytime temperatures around the mid-70s early in the week, followed by a chance of showers Friday night and a significant temperature drop over the weekend. Saturday’s high is forecast near the upper 50s, followed by a cooler Sunday and overnight temperatures falling into the upper 30s.

The forecast change provides a timely opportunity for homeowners to check how well water can move off the roof and away from the property.

Leaves, pine needles, and roof debris can accumulate in gutters and valleys during fall. When drainage becomes restricted, water can overflow at the roof edge, run behind gutters, or remain in sections of the system as colder nighttime temperatures arrive.

SkyRight recommends checking gutters and downspouts, roof valleys, chimney and wall flashing, pipe penetrations, roof edges, and visible shingles or metal panels.

Post Falls homeowners should also watch for water staining around fascia, gutters that pull away from the structure, downspouts that discharge next to the foundation, and previous leak areas that have not been permanently corrected.

Local building criteria demonstrate why winter preparation is particularly relevant. The City of Post Falls lists a 40 psf roof snow load, 56 psf ground snow load, and 115 mph three-second residential wind speed. The city also states that ice-shield underlayment is required because of occasional severe conditions.

These design criteria do not provide a homeowner with a way to determine the capacity or remaining service life of an individual existing roof. They do, however, underscore the importance of proper roof-edge details, drainage, underlayment, and winter-resistant installation practices in Post Falls.

SkyRight encourages property owners with active leaks, damaged roofing materials, or recurring drainage problems to have those areas evaluated while conditions remain suitable for inspection and repair.

Homeowners should not walk on wet, frosted, or steep roofing surfaces. Roof conditions that cannot be safely assessed from the ground should be inspected by a qualified professional.

SkyRight Roofing and Gutters provides roof inspections, residential and commercial roofing, roof repair, roof replacement, metal roofing, and gutter services from its Post Falls location.
